While I was looking for cool people I share my birthday with, (Napoleon, Melinda Gates, Tom Kelly, Tim Foreman) and I happen upon Wikipedia, (what are the odds?) and it turns out that August 15 is a very violent and disastrous day! Here is but a small sampling of what has happened on this day.

927 - The Saracens are conquered and destroyed Taranto.

1461 - The Empire of Trebizond surrenders to the forces of Sultan Mehmet II. This is the real end of the Byzantine Empire. Emperor David is exiled and later murdered.

1599 - Nine Years War: Battle of Curlew Pass - Irish forces led by Hugh Roe O'Donnell successfully ambush English forces, led by Sir Conyers Clifford, were sent to relieve Collooney Castle.

1863 - The Anglo-Satsuma War begins between the Satsuma Domain of Japan and the United Kingdom (Traditional Japanese date: July 2, 1863).

1914 - A male servant of American architect Frank Lloyd Wright set fire to the living quarters of the architect's Wisconsin home, Taliesin, murdered seven people, and burned the living quarters to the ground. It is unknown if the servant was arrested or not.

1935 - Will Rogers and Wiley Post are killed after engine problems during takeoff in Barrow, Alaska.

1939 - 13 Stukas dive into the ground during a disastrous air-practice at Neuhammer. No survivors.

1952 - Devon, United Kingdom A flashflood drenches the town of Lynmouth, killing 34 people.

1974 - Yuk Young-soo, First Lady of South Korea is killed amid an apparent assassination attempt upon President of South Korea, Park Chung-hee, during the anniversarial ceremony of the Liberation day.

1984 - PKK, Kurdish people in Turkey gain arms and start a Guerrilla warfare campaign against the Turkish military

1998 - Omagh bomb in Northern Ireland, becoming the worst terrorist incident of The Troubles

1999 - Beni Ounif massacre in Algeria; some 29 people killed at a false roadblock near the Moroccan border, leading to temporary tensions with Morocco.

2007 - An 8.0-magnitude earthquake off the Pacific coast devastates Ica and various regions of Peru killing 514 and injuring 1,090.

This doesn't really have a meaning, just thought it was interesting. btw: Check out Children 18:3, they totally rock!

  • And so the young gentleman, after completing his duties as radio controlled operator, proceed to drive to his home in the beautiful north-land. He knew he was going to be leaving the very next day on the 'morn, and as such he began packing in haste. He and his two wonderful sisters also traveled to the local cinema to observe Jack Black in his natural form, as a panda.
Having rested through the night and waking up feeling well and good he then finished his hasty packing and loaded his bags into the 47 passenger behemoth that was a passenger bus. He was also joined by numerous friends and family, in number 35. These people all set off into the land which was not as far north as they were in the beginning of the day. In the course of the two days there was much fun and frivolity, a significant number of people lost their voices, in the end, everyone arrived home safe and refreshed. The young sir in our story did not even mind returning to work after the 3-day weekend.

  • The young man sat in front of a computer at his radio station job, although low-paying, the job was easy and actually enjoyable. While at work he was listening to a state tournament softball game and wondering what the outcome would be. Suddenly, at 11:05, their was a noise that came over the airwaves for all to hear! It was the ever mysterious ABC news, frantically, he reached for his control keyboard and proceed to vanquish the ever imposing news flashes. Rising victoriously from the aforementioned conflict, he continued to conduct exhaustive research on the fictional world of Sios. In this world, our character (and he is definitely a character) is a renowned pirate, ruling the skies with his quad-cannon warship.  We leave our hero sitting on his comfortable chair and waiting in hesitant expectation for the end of the softball game.

                         to be continued....

    Weather

Something just seems a little wrong right now. Perhaps it's the fact that my coffee was cold this morning, or maybe, just maybe, it because we have a foot or so of snow on the ground! It just seems so wrong, but what can I do about it? Nothing, absolutely nothing. Just sit back and watch it melt. I'm still planning on riding 100 miles this weekend, might be cold and wet though!

And now the Miles and Macy Co. present to you; a post, in three parts.
     One.
I went to a Hawk Nelson concert on Wednesday knight, they were awesome, the quote of the evening, from the lead singer of Capital Lights, "There are two kinds of people in the world, those who have a Myspace, and those who have a life, we have a Myspace."  That is a band you should really check out, Capital Lights, on Myspace http://www.myspace.com/capitallights.

    Two.
Another site you should check out is Google sightseeing, they give links to all sorts of sights on Google Earth and Google Streetview. Here are two pictures featured recently.

Xanga sized them a little funny (ha ha) so it's kind of hard to see, but it's still obvious what's happening. In the second picture, note the two white bags siting behind the car. I'm thinking it was probably a bank robbery.

    Three
Xanga spellchecker is really whacked out, among the words it does not recognize.

    Facebook
    Myspace
    Purevolume
    Blogspot
These sites have been around for long time and there's no excuse for not having them in a word database, but the crowning jewel of it's ineptitude, it does not recognize the word "Xanga".

  • I think that I have lost a lot of inspiration for Xanga lately. Maybe it would be a good idea to recount some of the things that have happened to me recently. I saw my father's car rolling across the parking lot! ARRGH! I forgot the brake and left it in neutral.
We traveled to Indiana to see Alicia sing with the choir.
I am once again employed and receiving monetary reimbersment.
I know there was one other thing that I was going to write about, but I can't remember what is was.

About Me

  • This is the module that most people write about things that are important to them. Things that last for a number of years and then pass away. But how much longer is eternity than things of this world? That's why what I put in here has eternal value. I'm a christain who is doing his best to keep God first in his life, because he is the only thing that won't pass away.
